Electronic apostille

Status query and downloading of electronic Apostilles
Partial electronic processing

The electronic Apostille can be downloaded via this page. You will be asked to provide a username (which is the same as the applicant's national identity card number) and password provided by the authority before which the Apostille was requested in the document “Proof of Apostille application”.

The deadline for downloading the electronic Apostille will be 30 calendar days from the date notification of the availability of the Apostille for download is issued.

After this period the electronic Apostille will no longer be available to the applicant for download and a new Apostille must then be requested.

Check the authenticity and integrity of the Apostilles via a CSV (Secure Verification Code)

Any interested party and third parties for whom the apostilled document is intended, may check the validity of an Apostille via this page. To make a query of this type you will be asked to provide the following details found in the Apostille document: the secure verification code, the number of the Apostille and its issue date.

If the search is successful, you will be able to view a PDF image of the apostille which will be identical to that issued by the Competent Authority, except that it will not be signed electronically nor will it contain the apostilled public document as an appendix. This image will enable you to make a visual comparison with the Apostille presented.

The register of Apostilles contains information on all the Apostilles issued in Spain except for those issued by Notaries.

For electronic Apostilles only (Validate Apostille Signature)
Partial electronic processing

Here you can verify the digital signature on the electronic Apostille. To access this service you will be asked to provide the following details found on the Apostille document: the secure verification code, the number of the Apostille and its issue date.

To check the validity of the digital signature on the electronic Apostille, you will need to upload the electronic Apostille document so that the system can validate the electronic signature on it. If the Apostille is valid, the system will display a validation window in which you will be able to see some data from the certificate used to sign the electronic Apostille and a validation symbol which indicates that everything is correct.

Verification of the integrity of the apostilled document
Partial electronic processing

Here you can verify the digital signature on the electronic Apostille. To access this service you will be asked to provide the following details found on the Apostille document: the secure verification code, the number of the Apostille and its issue date.

Third parties for whom the apostilled public document is intended will be able to check the integrity of the document through this service. This procedure guarantees that an electronic document is exactly the same as the one for which the electronic apostille was issued.

In order to check the integrity of documents issued as hard copies that have been digitised by the Competent Authorities, the system requires the electronic copy that was provided by the Competent Authority.

For help on how to carry out this procedure, see here (PDF. 427 KB).
